Typically, a blackjack tournament consists of several rounds of play amongst six or more players competing against each other. It consists of play by elimination where only one or two players at each table will advance to the next level.
Most tournaments have 3 to 5 elimination rounds. A typical format will have two players from each table of six going on to the next round, one player from each table of six advancing from the second round and then on to the final table. This will lead to six players playing at the final table allowing for 108 entries at eighteen first round tables.
Every round has a specific number of hands and players will commence will an equal number of chips. At the end of every round, the player with the highest bankroll will move ahead. Tournament play has a unique dealer button system.
