Baccarat is one of the oldest card games played in casinos worldwide. From its humble beginnings in Italy, it was popularized by France and spread throughout each continent. With this, several types of baccarats emerged, with each type varying slightly in rules. Although this is the case, the object of each baccarat type remains the same, to bet on the hand that values closest to nine.

The Chemin de Fer baccarat variation is the variation that evolved from France when the game of baccarat landed in its shores. Chemin de Fer baccarat variation literally means "railroad." Chemin de Fer baccarat variation has been aptly called as that because the role of the banker passes from one player to another. This means that the shoe or the cardholder also passes from one player to another that is comparable to a train in a railroad. The rules of the game are the same as other baccarat variations.

The Mini baccarat variation is similar to the American baccarat variation. In the American baccarat variation, the casino is the banker and players are only made to bet on the hands. The mini baccarat variation is different from the American baccarat variation because it has lower table limits that enable more players to enjoy the game. The table in the mini baccarat variation also is markedly smaller than other baccarat variations.

The Super Pan Nine baccarat variation differs from other baccarat variations because it does not use the cards with seven, eight, nine and ten values but it includes the face cards. The Super Pan Nine baccarat variation deals the player and the banker with three cards all face down. Both player and banker may or may not draw a fourth card.

The Baccarat en Banque baccarat variation is also a baccarat variation from France. It is quite different from the other baccarat variations because it deals the player with two hands and the banker has only one hand. Players are only allowed to bet on the player's hand and not on the banker's hand. Baccarat en Banque only allows the casino to be the banker and does not allow the banker's role to pass from one player or another.

The Punto Banco baccarat variation possesses the same rules as the other baccarat variations. It differs from the other baccarat variations because the player is called the punto and the banker is called the banco.
